Anwyl gets third Preston site underway

Anwyl Homes Lancashire has begun work on 72 new homes in Barton, near Preston... ANWYL Homes Lancashire has begun work on 72 new homes in Barton, near Preston, with strict new social distancing protocols in place. Construction workers must maintain a distance of two metres at all times, on scaffolding, in properties or working outside; and there can only be two people inside a property at any one time – one upstairs and one downstairs. Other safety measures include Covid-19 inductions for all staff and sub-contractors, extensive new signage, enhanced cleaning, one-way systems on pedestrian walkways and work sequenced to ensure the two metre rule can be maintained. John Grime, Anwyl Homes Lancashire managing director, commented: “We had been due to start construction of our Lawrence Gardens development earlier this year when the Covid-19 pandemic struck. We had no choice but to postpone work until it was safe to do so. “Now, with comprehensive industry guidelines and our own safety measures in place we are very pleased to report that our third site in the Preston area is under way.” Anwyl has planning consent for 50 private sale four-bedroom detached homes at Lawrence Gardens and 22 affordable properties, which will be for a mix of shared ownership and affordable rent. The development fronts the A6 Garstang Road, six miles north of Preston. There will be public open space located at the heart of the development and a pedestrian link from Garstang Road to the nearby Lancaster Canal. An area to the front of the site is earmarked for retail development, most likely a local convenience shop. “This is our third live site in the Preston area, with homes already on sale and show homes recently opened at Bluebell Meadows, in Fulwood, and homes also under construction at Stonebridge Fold, in Longridge,” John added. “Whilst the Lancashire business was founded in 2017 and is based at Buckshaw Village, near Chorley, our early developments were in St Helens, Prescot and Liverpool, so we’re delighted to now be expanding our presence in central Lancashire close to our regional headquarters.” Homes at Lawrence Gardens, Barton, are due to go on sale later this year with two fully furnished show homes due to open next spring and the first homes expected to be ready for occupation soon after. The whole site is scheduled for completion in 2023. The new Broughton bypass means access to the M6 and M55 motorways is only minutes away, while the village of Barton itself has a semi-rural feel and is only a short drive from the market town of Garstang. Alongside the Lawrence Garden homes, Anwyl will make a number of financial contributions that will be of direct benefit to the local community, including more than £750,000 that will be used towards primary and secondary education, highways improvements, local footpath improvements and travel plan provision.  New junction works to improve safety and the speed of traffic approaching along Garstang Road will also be funded.
