Couple on course for above-par lifestyle in Handforth

Web developer Stefan Croft was on the lookout for a buy-to-let property when he came across The Fairways in Handforth– and instead decided to buy a home for himself and partner Joanna. The couple loved the Anwyl Homes development and its stylish properties so much, they decided against buying a property to rent out, because they wanted to live there themselves. “We fell in love with it straight away,” says Stefan, 38, from Wythenshawe.  “We loved the property - the quirkiness was brilliant - and it couldn’t be in a more ideal spot for us. “It will mean we can get the work/life balance just right, and it ticks all the boxes for us now, and in the future.”
Stefan, who works for a digital agency in Manchester city centre, and partner Joanna Sucharzewska, 32, an administrator for an engineering company, currently live in a two-bedroom apartment close to Manchester Airport. They had planned to sell the apartment and buy two smaller homes - one to live in and one to let - until they discovered Anwyl’s luxury homes collection off St George’s Way.
“And we changed our minds completely,” says Stefan. “When I came across The Fairways I thought the price was good, and the area and the homes were really nice. When I phoned up and discovered it was around the corner from Styal Park where Joanna and I go walking quite a lot, and it’s only a few miles from Wilmslow where we go a couple of times a week to shop or for food, that was it. “It wasn’t what we planned but it all fell into place, and it couldn’t be more perfect.”
The Fairways has a selection of one to five-bedroom styles, with apartments, and semi-detached and detached homes. Stefan and Joanna chose the three- storey semi-detached Snowdon home because of its flexibility and because it could change and adapt with them and their lifestyle.
Stefan explains: “We loved the open plan layout of the ground floor with the kitchen, living and dining area - it felt so huge and luxurious - and the windows in the ceiling which let in so much light. The top floor is our bedroom suite, and it’s beautiful with a large bedroom area, an en-suite and a dressing room. “There are two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor and one of those will be a guest room for when Joanna’s family come to stay from Poland, and the other room I’ll use as a home office. I have the flexibility to work there or in the city centre office, which will take about 15-20 minutes to get to via train - and a creative space because I produce music in my spare time.  I currently pay for a professional studio but having my own will mean I save money and I’ll see Joanna more because I won’t have to leave the house.” The couple have already talked about starting a family together in the next 12 months or so: “Then the other bedrooms will become rooms for the children,” says Stefan, who continues: “I have always lived in a flat so this will be the first home I’ve lived in and I can’t wait. It will be lovely to finally have a garden, and Joanna and I have already made plans for a pergola.”
