Anwyl Homes has started work on a sustainable new house that will shape its future designs. The gas-free property has been named “The Evergreen” and is being built at Anwyl’s The Fairways development, in Handforth, Cheshire. It’s the first of its kind for the developer and will be built to meet the proposed Future Homes Standard, which will require new build homes to be future-proofed with low carbon heating and world-leading levels of energy efficiency. The standard will be introduced by 2025.

Building regulations are already due to change from June 2023 and new homes will be expected to produce 31% less carbon emissions than is currently acceptable. Anwyl’s Evergreen home goes much further than those requirements. The Evergreen will be fully electric and be heated by an Air Source Heat Pump with under-floor heating – keeping the house totally off the gas grid. It will also include an insulated 200mm cavity in all external walls, compared to the current 100mm, and feature triple glazed windows with better draught excluding capabilities. To combat the potential of over-heating, centralised mechanical ventilation will be installed. The Fairways is an impressive development of one to five-bedroom homes, featuring a choice of apartments, semi-detached and detached homes close to the centre of Handforth.
