Your Local Area

There are plenty of things to do in Congleton, whether you’re running a 5k or wandering the hills of the Peak District. From a thriving market district to quick transport links to Macclesfield and Stoke, you’ll never be short of activities to fill your weekends.

Your new home is a 13-minute walk away from the Black Firs Wood, a nature reserve tucked away in the northwestern corner of Congleton. Black Firs is known for its spring bluebells, which you can see from March to May along your walking route.

There are several other parks and reserves in west Congleton, including Rhead’s Meadow, Dalebrook Road Park and the Field View Road Park. Your local parks tend to have play areas for the kids, alongside walking routes to keep your legs active without taking you too far afield. Congleton’s main park is at Astbury Mere, a 5-minute drive away from home. The Mere surrounds a leisure lake perfect for watersports and angling, while the circular route around it makes for a wonderful dog walking spot. The park is also home to the Congleton Parkrun, a friendly 5k run every Saturday morning at 9.

As for social amenities, Congleton Library is located just behind the bus station in the town centre and provides a photocopier, a meeting room for hire and a coffee machine. The kids can join the Dane Valley Scout Group an 8-minute drive away, or try their hand at the 230 Squadron Air Training Corps cadets. There are plenty of gyms in Congleton, from an igym a 4-minute drive away to town centre facilities at Per4mance Fitness, Beartown Fitness and the Congleton Leisure Centre. The Leisure Centre has a 6-lane swimming pool and over 100 gym stations, alongside a soft play centre and a spa.

Our new houses for sale in Congleton are located between two major A-roads: the A34 and the A54. The A34 will take you to Manchester’s M60 ring road within 32 minutes, or Stoke-on-Trent in 30 minutes. The A54 is your direct link to Chester, leading to the Welsh border in a little under 1 hour.

As for buses, Congleton benefits from services to Crewe, Macclesfield and Newcastle, all of which stop at the Congleton bus station on Market Street. You can reach the station with a 9-minute drive, or simply take the 42 or 38 bus from your local stop on Dalebrook Road.

The Congleton Train Station is an 11-minute drive away along Park Lane. The station has parking spaces that you can book online in advance, and operates about 1 train per hour to both Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent. It takes an average of 15 minutes to reach Stoke by train, while Manchester services stop at Macclesfield and Stockport and take 40 minutes to get to Piccadilly. You can reach Manchester Airport in 32 minutes by car and an hour and a half by train, where you can take international flights to 188 airports across 55 different countries.

There are three local nurseries close to our new homes in Congleton, including a dedicated Forest School a 6-minute drive away at Ladybugs & Slugs. The other two options for daycare are at New Life Nursery a 6-minute drive away and at The Nursery a 9-minute drive away.

There are plenty of primary schools close to Elmy Fields, including Black Firs Primary School a 28-minute walk away from home. Black Firs provides a range of classes from preschool for 3 year olds to Upper Juniors at 11. The Quinta Primary is also within walking distance, 33 minutes away on foot or 5 by car.

Further out, you’ll find the Saint Mary’s Catholic Primary in central Congleton and the Marlfields Primary Academy a 9-minute drive away. Marlfields takes on children from 3 years old, while Saint Mary’s has places available for 2-year olds. You can also find Astbury St Mary’s C Of E an 8-minute drive away to the south of Congleton.

Congleton High School is a 25-minute walk away from your front door, where secondary students can access a local sixth form with an Honours Programme to help them get into prestigious universities. Two more sixth forms are available at Eaton Bank Academy and Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School. Congleton is best known for its proximity to the Keele and Staffordshire universities. Keele is a 34-minute drive away and specialises in career-focused courses, teaching subjects such as Creative Writing and Astrophysics. Staffordshire is located a 32-minute drive away and made its name through Computer Science and Game Design courses.

Congleton’s main shopping district is located along Market Street and Mill Street, a 7-minute drive away from our new housing development in Congleton. There, you’ll find a wide range of cuisines across plenty of restaurants, from breakfast and tea at the Bear Grills Cafe to traditional pizza at Wood Fire Smoke and fine dining tasting menus at Pecks.

The town centre also provides Indian food at Beartown Spices, Indian Spice and KingfishR indian cuisine. You can find Tibetan cuisine at Four Friends Tibet, Mediterranean dishes at No 15 Bar & Grill and global fine dining at Miam Miam.

Alongside its dining menu, Congleton town centre is home to a wide range of leisure and lifestyle outlets. You’ll find high street favourites such as Superdrug, Oxfam, Poundland and Card Factory, while clothing shops include Peacocks, Metcalfe Delia and Davenports Menswear Limited. You can even buy a wedding dress at 130 Atelier Bridal Cheshire, and antiques at the Victoria Mill Antique & Collectors Centre!

For a fine dining experience at home, you can buy local meat at the Egerton Brooks butcher shop and fresh produce at Glebe Farm. You can also find an independent greengrocer at RJ & J Moore an 8-minute drive away from home. For bigger shops, supermarkets in Congleton include Aldi, Iceland and Home Bargains a 5-minute drive away, while you can shop at M&S, Morrisons and the Swan Bank Mini Mart in the town centre.

The Congleton Maker’s Market runs on the last Saturday of every month on Bridge Street, where you can browse independent retailers selling everything from knitwear to cakes. You’ll also find  the Congleton Market and Car Boot Sale around the Market Hall on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, where you can buy local pork, deli food, pet supplies, textiles and fresh farm veg. As for modern retail therapy, our new builds in Congleton are equidistant to the Grosvenor Shopping Centre in Macclesfield and Alexandra Park in Stoke. At the Grosvenor, you can shop at Posh Brats, John Douglas, Lil’s Childrens Clothing, the Sweet Emporium and more, while Alexandra Park is a one-stop-shop for Sports Direct, Matalan and Halfords.
