Your First Home scheme
Take your first step onto the property ladder.
Helping you take your first step onto the property ladder
Buying your first home could become more achievable with the Government’s proposed Your First Home scheme, designed to help eligible first-time buyers in England purchase a new-build home with a smaller deposit.
Full details are expected to be announced at the Autumn Budget on 28th October 2026. Until then, here’s what we know so far and how the proposed scheme could work.

What we know so far
How will the Your First Home scheme work?
Based on the Government’s initial announcement, the proposed scheme is expected to offer eligible buyers:
- Access to a mortgage with a 2.5% deposit on a qualifying new build home.
- A Government equity loan of up to 20% of the property’s value.
- Improved affordability, potentially reducing the mortgage you need and helping you access competitive mortgage rates.
The scheme is separate from the existing First Homes scheme. Final details, including eligibility criteria, household income limits and property price caps, are yet to be confirmed.
