Wondering what to do in Mold? The town is a perfect example of rural life, and Dôl Derwen is surrounded by opportunities to get into the outdoors. An 11-minute walk away from home, the Bailey Hill park provides a cosy spot to take the dog for a walk or relax on the grass in the summer, while you can find the Mold Flower Gardens a further 10 minutes into town. For longer walks, drive 6 minutes out to the Loggerheads Country Park, a quarryside green space perfect for hiking.
Mold is on the border of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley national park, a beautiful stretch of forested mountains sprawled around the River Dee. Hike through river valleys, across cliffside trails and over mountain peaks as you explore the wild countryside of North Wales before sitting down for a cup of tea in Llangollen, Ruthin, or Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd.
Turn your attention north to find the Dee estuary itself, a large waterway harbouring the neighbouring towns of Connah’s Quay and Flint. The river is perfect for paddleboarding, waterskiing, wakeboarding and boating, with harbours at Prestatyn, Rhyl and West Kirby. If you’d rather keep your feet on dry land, you can stretch your angling muscles at the Wal Goch and Stamford Way fishing ponds, both a 12-minute drive away from home.
Cavers will find spelunking opportunities at Alyn Gorge, where the Ogof Nadolig and Hesp Alyn caves await the intrepid adventurer. Experienced climbers can try their hand at the Devil’s Gorge cliff a 6-minute drive away from Dôl Derwen, while an indoor climbing wall is available at The Boardroom Climbing in Connah’s Quay. Always climb and cave safely, and never without proper experience and equipment!
Mold’s crowning jewel is the Theatr Clwyd, a performing arts theatre located a stone’s throw away from your new home. Here, you can watch broadway-grade performances of classics such as the Girl on the Train, Cinderella and Tick, tick… BOOM.

Surrounded by local A-roads, Mold is well-connected to the villages around the Dee. The A494 is a 5 minute drive away from Dôl Derwen, linking you up to Ewloe, Deeside and the English border, and crossing the A55 along the way. The A55 is the main coastal road through North Wales, connecting Chester to Anglesey.
Mold Bus Station is located just off King Street, an 18-minute walk away from the development. The station is made up of seven bus stops running regular services to Wrexham and Chester, as well as Flint, Denbigh and Holywell. The nearest bus stop to Dôl Derwen is a 12-minute walk away at Queen’s Park Top, where you can catch the F6 bus to get to the station.
Your closest train station is in Buckley, a 13 minute drive away from home, where you can catch regular services to Wrexham General and Wrexham Central. You can hop off at several local stops along the way, including Hope, Penyffordd, Caergwrle, Hawarden and Neston. Buckley is located along the Borderlands Line, which is connected to several other train lines running between North Wales, South Wales and Manchester.

Buttercups accepts children between 4 months and 5 years, while Rise and Shine offers day care for tots between 3 months and 4 years old.
Dôl Derwen benefits from four primary schools within Mold town. The closest is 14 minutes away at Ysgol Bryn Gwalia , while the furthest is only a 26-minute walk away at Ysgol Glanrafon. A 21-minute walk will take you to the Bryn Coch and St David’s Catholic Primary schools, both of which accept children from 3 years old and up.
Ysgol Maes Garmon is the closest secondary school to the development, located a 24-minute walk away from home. At Maes Garmon, students are introduced to a comprehensive immersion scheme designed to help teenagers transition seamlessly into Welsh – perfect for English-speaking families moving to Wales for the first time!
Your other local secondary is the Alun School, a sixth form located a 26-minute walk away from the development. College-age students have a choice of 33 subjects to pick from, including Law, Film Studies, Politics, German, Graphic Design, Photography and Business.

The town centre is a 15 minute walk away from our new houses for sale in Mold, where you can shop at independent clothes shops such as Rock Bottom, Simmi and Bliss. Get your fiber fix at the local Yarn o’ Clock, buy cake toppers and birthday gifts at The Craft Shack, or find your next page-turner at Siop Y Siswrn. Once you’ve run your errands, you can take a seat and have a coffee at The Gathering, Ruben’s Coffee, or Caffi’r Cob.
Over 70 stalls set up shop at Mold Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, selling everything from artisan cheeses to pottery and plants. Three other markets also operate in Mold, shaking things up for adventurous customers: a weekly indoor market in the Daniel Owen Shopping Centre, a twice-monthly farmer’s market in St Mary’s Church Hall, and a livestock market in the town centre.
The Fat Boar gastropub is an 18 minute walk into Mold, while you can sit down at the Hungry Cow for hamburgers, Asia Sensation for Chinese food, or the Deadwood Smokehouse for a barbecue dinner. If you’re cooking at home, you can stock up at the local Lidl, Morrisons, Farmfoods or Aldi, all within a 21-minute walk of your kitchen.
